Handheld Fetal Doppler for Expectant Parents

A compact handheld fetal Doppler with a built-in speaker and an LCD display. It uses an ultrasound probe to pick up heartbeat sounds so you can listen to them out loud. It is light, battery powered and easy to hold, and comes in Pink or Blue.

This device works by sending ultrasound waves into the body. In the US, fetal Doppler heartbeat monitors are legally marketed as prescription devices, and the FDA says they should only be used by or under the supervision of a trained medical professional. The FDA discourages expectant parents from using over-the-counter fetal Doppler monitors, because ultrasound can slightly heat tissue and can produce very small bubbles in some tissue. Talk to your doctor or midwife before using this device, use it only as they advise, and keep each session short and occasional.

Whether or not you hear a heartbeat, this device cannot tell you if your baby is well, and the sound you hear may be your own pulse or blood flow rather than your baby's heartbeat. If you have any concern, for example a change in your baby's movements, contact your doctor or midwife straight away, even if you can hear a heartbeat with this device.

A water-based ultrasound gel is needed for use and is not included.
